Precis
I can't say what my work is about. Every sentence I write in an attempt to parse it is more fraudulent than the last. I pay attention to the order of words, and find that my early suspicions were correct, that artist statements in general do more damage than good, despite their best intentions (to provide a portal through which a newcomer to the work can more easily manoeuvre). I do believe art is of primary importance, a rival authority to politics, not its handmaiden. To say more than that would feel disingenuous and flat; no statement at all.
